The FIM made significant changes to the 2025 MotoGP World Championship regulations this week, introducing a test day for injured riders and clarifying startline procedures. Additionally, an agreement was reached on testing prototype bikes for the 2027 season, which will feature technical upgrades like 850cc engines and simplified ride-height devices.
Manufacturers have begun work on 2027 prototypes, but testing is not permitted until after the conclusion of the 2025 season. A pact among manufacturers stipulates that testing of these new machines can only begin on November 17, 2025, following the Valencia season finale.
2026 pre-season testing at Valencia will occur shortly after the 2025 season ends, while a new tyre supplier, Pirelli, will replace Michelin in 2027. Pirelli will conduct initial testing of its premier-class tyre compounds later this season at Aragon with fully funded tests not impacted by the new regulations.
