Charles Leclerc’s race turned into a disaster following a perfect start to the Hungarian Grand Prix, which ended up with yet another McLaren one-two. Leclerc led much of the race from pole, before losing considerable pace following his final pit stop. George Russell revealed Mercedes’ theory that Leclerc’s Ferrari was on the verge of being “illegal”, resulting in mid-race changes to avoid a disqualification. Elsewhere, Lando Norris secured victory ahead of Oscar Piastri, with Russell completing the podium. Max Verstappen had to settle for ninth, three places ahead of a despondent Lewis Hamilton in 12th at the Hungaroring.
