RacingNews365’s technical analyst Paolo Filsetti dissects McLaren’s strong upgrades package, which saw Lando Norris clinch Sprint pole in Miami.
McLaren arrived at Miami International Autodrome with a substantial development package that promises to significantly change the course of their 2026 campaign. This upgrade includes seven aerodynamic modifications to the MCL40, making it the second-largest upgrade package of the weekend, behind Ferrari’s 11-component revision. For Andrea Stella’s team, this upgrade marks the culmination of a project that has been in progress since the beginning of the season. The front end of the car received significant attention, with a focus on improving outwash generation through intricate changes to the front wing endplates and nose cone geometry. Rear-end modifications were equally extensive, including a redesign of the sidepod inlets, floor design, and rear wing assembly to enhance airflow and aerodynamic performance. This comprehensive upgrade package is expected to be fully implemented by the Canadian Grand Prix, indicating McLaren’s commitment to their new aerodynamic direction.
