Haas F1 team owner Gene Haas says the decision to remove Guenther Steiner from his position after 10 years simply came down to performance.
Guenther Steiner, the 58-year-old Italian, has been replaced by Ayao Komatsu, the team’s former director of engineering, just over a month before the start of the 2024 F1 season. Haas had a difficult and disappointing campaign in 2023, scoring only 12 points across 22 races and finishing last in the constructors’ championship. While Haas acknowledged that the team’s lack of competitiveness was not directly Steiner’s fault, the decision not to extend his contract was based on their performance. Haas believes that a change in direction is necessary as they have never achieved a podium finish in their eight-year history. They aspire to be a mid-pack team to attract and retain sponsors and aim to improve their performance with a strong team, great engines, and talented drivers.
