Day one of the Valencia MotoGP title showdown played into Jorge Martin’s hands with world championship leader Francesco Bagnaia failing to make the top ten and being forced to take part in Qualifying 1.
The competition between the Ducati riders intensified as Martin followed Bagnaia out of the pits, much to the frustration of team manager Davide Tardozzi. Martin closely followed Bagnaia’s lead, causing tension on the track. Bagnaia’s chances of reaching Q2 were dashed by yellow flags. Martin expressed satisfaction with his performance, acknowledging Bagnaia’s difficulties. He clarified that he was observing Bagnaia’s strengths rather than trying to intimidate him. Martin faced a fine for his positioning during practice starts.
