A second letter has been issued by McLaren CEO Zak Brown, this time to the Woking-based team’s fans.
McLaren CEO Zak Brown is urging the FIA to implement stricter rules to limit ties between Formula 1 teams, emphasizing the need for greater independence within each team.
Brown recently expressed his concerns to FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem, highlighting issues of dual ownership and pointing to Red Bull’s control over Racing Bulls as an example.
Specific incidents, including the controversial 2024 Singapore Grand Prix, were mentioned in Brown’s communication, with a focus on instances that he believed compromised the integrity of the sport.
In addition to referencing scenarios involving drivers like Daniel Ricciardo and Lando Norris, who raced for related teams, Brown emphasized his call for independence ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix.
Addressing McLaren fans, Brown reiterated the necessity for F1 teams to operate autonomously, especially with the current financial stability in the sport, to ensure fairness and equal competition among all drivers and teams.
While acknowledging the progress made by Liberty Media and the FIA in developing Formula 1, Brown expressed optimism that the issue of alliances and team independence would be addressed and resolved to further enhance the sport.
