Red Bull’s Quest for Resolution: Racing to Settle the F1 Controversy Once and For All

Red Bull boss Laurent Mekies wants a firm, decisive answer over a key topic.

According to Red Bull chief Laurent Mekies, F1 should finally resolve the ongoing power unit debate to provide clarity and stability for the future. Talks are being held between the FIA, F1, and the five power unit manufacturers to potentially change the power output ratio in the regulations for 2027. Concerns over energy preservation strategies like super-clipping and lift and coast have led to discussions about adjusting the ratio between the internal combustion engine and battery systems. While there was initial agreement on a new 60:40 split in favor of the ICE, opposition from Audi and Ferrari has stalled progress as a supermajority vote is required for any changes. Mekies believes that all parties should prioritize the overall improvement of races and the sport, setting aside individual competitiveness for the greater good. Ultimately, the goal is to reach a permanent solution and avoid the power unit debate becoming a recurring issue in the future.
