Mercedes will no longer pursue a share of the Alpine F1 Team.
Mercedes has backed out of the discussions to acquire a minority share in Alpine due to a significant disparity in valuation. The German manufacturer had reached an agreement with Alpine’s owners, Renault, to purchase Otro Capital’s 24% stake in the Enstone-based F1 team, but negotiations collapsed over Otro’s high asking price. Otro reportedly demanded £536 million for its share, valuing Alpine at £2.2 billion, a steep increase from the £171 million it initially paid. Mercedes believed the team’s true value to be between £1.6 billion and £1.8 billion, much lower than Otro’s asking price. Despite strong interest in Otro’s shares, Renault, with veto power until September, has halted any further talks. Alpine has also announced a new partnership with Gucci starting in 2027, signaling a profitable venture amidst these negotiations.
