Revving up the Challenge: Monaco GP Ditches F1’s Overtaking Aid

The Monaco Grand Prix will be the first race in 2026 not to use the new overtaking aid.

The Monaco Grand Prix in 2026 will not have the new ‘straight mode’ overtaking aid from F1, making it the first race of the year without it.

F1 cars this season are equipped with active aerodynamics, allowing the front and rear wings to open for drag reduction. This feature compensates for the new engines that have a 50:50 power output split between batteries and the internal combustion engine.

The new active aerodynamics were not meant to directly replace the old DRS system, which was used for reducing drag during overtaking situations.

The Monaco track map on F1.com does not indicate any straight mode activation zones for the upcoming race in Monte Carlo.

While DRS was previously only utilized on the pit-straight at Monaco, the 2026 race will not feature the straight mode in any section. Safety concerns have prevented the use of DRS through the tunnel in Monaco.

Instead of the ‘straight mode’, the race will utilize the overtaking aid at specific locations: detection before Rascasse corner, activation on the exit, and just before the final corner, Anthony Noghes.
