The F1 team has produced a first-of-its-kind roadmap towards the development of such a car.
McLaren CEO Zak Brown expresses excitement about the development of a circular Formula 1 car, which aims to eliminate waste and excess in manufacturing processes. McLaren, along with partners Google and Deloitte, has created a roadmap to rethink how race cars are designed, manufactured, and reused with sustainability in mind. The team reports a 14% reduction in total waste and a 40% decrease in hazardous waste disposal by 2025, compared to 2024. McLaren maintains a 22% circularity across the production of its F1 car chassis, utilizing recycled metals, bio-derived materials, and various recycling methods. In addition to F1 car sustainability efforts, McLaren Racing collaborates with the Great Barrier Reef Foundation to develop OSCAR, a machine that aids coral restoration with robotics technology. Zak Brown highlights the importance of reducing the sport’s environmental impact and looks forward to continued progress in sustainability initiatives.
