The purchase of this historic F1 item has set a new record.
The most expensive F1 helmet ever sold is a 44-year-old piece once owned by Gilles Villeneuve, sold through the Hall of Fame Collection.
Gilles Villeneuve, a former Ferrari driver, tragically lost his life in a crash during qualifying for the 1982 Belgian Grand Prix after winning six races.
This helmet, one of only two Villeneuve used in 1982, was worn during his final podium at Imola two weeks before his fatal accident.
Recently sold for $1.2 million with its original GPA bag, it now holds the title of the most expensive F1 helmet, surpassing a 1992 Ayrton Senna piece.
The Hall of Fame Collection expressed the significance of this sale, noting the growing value of F1 memorabilia as investment pieces.
