Resilient Lando Norris Stands Strong: McLaren’s Decision Backfires Amid Valid Reasons

McLaren’s decision to not start the Canadian GP on slick tyres immediately backfired, but it is one Lando Norris is not angry about.

Lando Norris defended McLaren’s decision to start the Canadian Grand Prix on intermediate tyres, stating that there were valid reasons behind the call. Despite understanding the decision after slippery reconnaissance laps, both Norris and Piastri realized the mistake as the circuit dried during the formation laps. Norris led briefly into the first corner but pitted for slick tyres on the second lap, while Piastri did the same at the end of the first lap. The incorrect choice dashed McLaren’s podium hopes, with Norris retiring due to a technical issue. Norris acknowledged the error but supported the team’s commitment to the strategy, emphasizing that no bad decision-making was involved. Reflecting on the race, Norris noted that while it was the wrong decision in hindsight, he appreciated the team’s willingness to take a chance and accepted the outcome as a learning experience.
