Kimi Antonelli eventually breezed to victory in the Canadian Grand Prix, becoming the first F1 driver to win his first four races consecutively.
Kimi Antonelli believes his fierce battle with George Russell would have continued until the end of the Canadian Grand Prix if not for Russell’s untimely retirement due to a power unit failure. Despite tensions between the teammates during the sprint, they re-engaged in a fight for supremacy at Mercedes, resulting in a drama-filled opening 29 laps of the race. Antonelli emerged victorious, securing his fourth consecutive win and a 43-point lead in the F1 drivers’ standings. Reflecting on the race, Antonelli mentioned that he had a slight advantage towards the end of the stint due to better pace, but acknowledged it would have been a close competition if Russell had remained in contention. He expressed disappointment in winning under such circumstances, emphasizing that he preferred a competitive battle until the finish line. While uncertain of the outcome, Antonelli admitted it would have been intriguing to see how the race would have unfolded if Russell had not encountered a technical issue.
