Devastating Crash Shakes Up Indy 500: Josef Newgarden’s Harrowing Moment

The two-time Indy 500 winner suffered a huge smash at the Indy 500.

After a rain delay at the Indy 500, Josef Newgarden suffered a major accident on Lap 125 when he lost control of his Penske car, crashing into the concrete barrier at Turn 4.

Despite the destruction of his car, Newgarden was able to climb out on his own, but precautionary measures saw an ambulance arrive on the scene due to his two-time Indy 500 winner status.

The crash occurred as the field was led by David Malukas, who had taken the lead following a prolonged caution period for rain.

Following the accident, the race resumed under Malukas’ lead, with Alex Palou, Conor Daly, and Scott Dixon in the top positions, while Newgarden’s crash took him out of contention from fourth place.

Overall, the race had been experiencing caution periods due to rain, including a red flag stoppage, with fluctuations in the lead until Newgarden’s crash ended his race prematurely.
