Sergio Perez learns stewards’ verdict after latest penalty jeopardy in Montreal
“Sergio Perez received a reprimand from the stewards at the Canadian Grand Prix for impeding Fernando Alonso during Q1. Despite qualifying P20 at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, the Cadillac driver was called before the officials in Montreal for blocking Alonso during the grid-setting session. The stewards ultimately chose not to penalize Perez, citing mitigating circumstances after he mistakenly thought Alonso was on a cool-down lap. However, Alonso was actually on a push lap at the time. The stewards provided detailed reasoning in the official decision document, stating that Perez’s actions violated Competition Notes but considering the mitigating circumstances, they imposed a reprimand instead of a harsher penalty. This marks Perez’s first reprimand of the 2026 F1 season.”
