The McLaren driver had been linked with a potential move to Red Bull if Max Verstappen leaves the team.
McLaren CEO Zak Brown has addressed speculation around Oscar Piastri being a potential target for Red Bull if Max Verstappen were to leave or retire from F1. Verstappen’s future at Red Bull and in Formula 1 has been a topic of discussion due to his critiques of the technical rules and his contract expiring in 2028 when he turns 31. There is an escalator clause in Verstappen’s contract allowing him to leave Red Bull if certain conditions are not met in the championship standings. Piastri, a McLaren driver managed by Mark Webber, is seen as a potential replacement for Verstappen when he eventually departs from Red Bull. Brown believes that McLaren’s goal is to create an environment where drivers, like Piastri and his teammate Lando Norris, want to stay and not be tempted to switch teams. Brown emphasized the importance of fostering loyalty and a positive working environment within McLaren to retain talent and keep sponsors on board.
