Check out the full weather forecast for the 2026 Indy 500.
The 2026 Indy 500 may face thunderstorms this weekend, as per the latest forecasts available.
At 07:30 ET on Thursday, May 21st, three days before the 200-lap race, the National Weather Service is anticipating a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms post 14:00 local time.
The race is scheduled to begin with the green flag waving at 12:45 ET, and typically concludes in about three hours.
Heavy rainfall is expected in Indianapolis on Saturday, with the weather system moving from southwest to northeast – the same system that might affect the F1 Canadian Grand Prix on Sunday.
This overlap between the two events – Indy 500 and F1 Canadian GP – is unprecedented due to Canada’s calendar shift, planned for this season, potentially leading to delays caused by weather or caution periods.
If rain indeed arrives at the Indy 500 as the current predictions suggest, it will move across the track from right to left, as viewed by drivers from the pit-straight heading directly south.
