Max Verstappen’s hopes of victory at the Nürburgring 24 Hours have been dashed.
Max Verstappen’s #3 Mercedes lost the lead at the Nürburgring 24 Hours due to an issue that affected team-mate Dani Juncadella shortly after taking over the wheel.
The car is currently in the garage on jacks for investigation, focusing on the rear right-hand corner, possibly related to the suspension.
Juncadella, still in the driver’s seat, looked distraught as the car slipped down the order.
Verstappen had built a comfortable lead of over 30 seconds before handing over the car after a double stint behind the wheel.
Maro Engels now leads in the sister #80 car, with a gap of over five minutes to the second-place #84 Lamborghini after completing 134 laps.
