Former Haas team principal Guenther Steiner believes Lewis Hamilton will retire from Formula 1 once he understands he cannot secure an eighth drivers’ championship at Ferrari. Hamilton made the switch from Mercedes to Scuderia for the 2025 season after a successful 12 years with Mercedes, where he clinched six of his seven titles and eight constructors’ championships, forming the most successful partnership in F1 history. His first season with Ferrari in 2025 was disastrous, finishing sixth in the drivers’ championship without a single podium finish, marking the worst season of his career. Despite a better performance in 2026, with a podium in Shanghai and fifth place in the championship with 51 points after four races, Steiner believes Hamilton’s future in F1 depends solely on his championship prospects. Steiner mentioned that Hamilton may decide to retire when he realizes he cannot secure the eighth title at Ferrari, indicating that it will be the moment Hamilton feels he has achieved everything he wanted in his F1 career.
