The Mercedes driver would love to follow in Max Verstappen’s footsteps. Might take some doing, though.
George Russell has discussed with Toto Wolff the possibility of attempting a record-breaking run of the Nordschleife, inspired by Max Verstappen’s achievements there. Verstappen holds the unofficial GT3 lap record of 7:45 and the all-time record is 5:19.546 set by Timo Bernhard. Russell expressed his admiration for Verstappen’s feats at the ‘Green Hell’ and his desire to tackle the track one day. Although Mercedes has been more reserved about drivers racing outside of F1, Russell hinted at a conversation with Wolff about breaking the Nordschleife record in an F1 car. For now, Russell’s focus remains on winning an F1 world championship and closing the gap to his teammate Kimi Antonelli in the standings. However, he teased the idea of racing at the Nordschleife during an F1 season once he has achieved four championships.
