George Russell Hails FIA’s Game-Changing F1 Rule Reforms

The FIA involved drivers in the process of developing changes to the F1 regulations, which are being introduced this weekend in Miami.

George Russell praised the FIA for their exceptional collaboration with drivers on the rule changes, emphasizing it as the best it’s ever been. The FIA organized meetings in April involving drivers, teams, and stakeholders to discuss potential alterations to the new power unit regulations. Scheduled after the opening rounds, the unplanned break from canceled races in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia provided an ideal opportunity for these discussions. Russell, a Grand Prix Drivers’ Association director, highlighted the drivers’ input being considered in the talks. He noted that incidents like the one between Colapinto and Bearman could have been prevented had drivers been part of the regulations’ creation from the start. Russell stressed the importance of addressing dramatic closing speeds, with positive feedback on the collaborative approach taken by the FIA towards future regulations. The objective is to eliminate large closing speeds to avoid similar incidents in the future, showcasing the positive impact of the new rules.
