Max Verstappen heads to Nurburgring 24 Hours without crucial exemption

Max Verstappen will return to the Nurburgring Nordschleife between May 14 and 17 for the Nurburgring 24 Hours. There, he will face a qualifying system that differs greatly from F1. But how does it work, and why did he not get an exemption?

Max Verstappen will have to navigate through the entire qualifying process for the Nurburgring 24 Hours, without the exemptions reserved for the top teams from earlier races.

His team must start from scratch due to disqualification in NLS2 race and technical issues in the second qualifying event.

Despite this setback, there is Dutch representation among the teams already guaranteed a spot in the final qualifying round.

Verstappen’s protégé, Thierry Vermeulen, secured his place in Top Qualifying 3 after claiming pole in the second qualifier, giving him a good starting position.

Although Verstappen’s chances for pole position are not eliminated, the qualification path has become more challenging without the exemption.

The 24-hour race will consist of six separate qualifying sessions, each with its own role in the complex qualification process.
