The South African president will attend a grand prix this season as the country ramps up its bid to bring F1 back to Kyalami.

South Africa is intensifying efforts to bring F1 back to Africa, with President Cyril Ramaphosa planning to attend a grand prix later this year as part of the country’s lobbying strategy. It has been 31 years since Formula 1 last raced in Africa, with Kyalami Circuit hosting the final event in 1993. Sports minister Gayton McKenzie announced the presidential visit, emphasizing it as a working visit aimed at strengthening their case. The specific round Ramaphosa will attend has not been disclosed yet, with details expected to be shared in coordination with the Presidency. McKenzie outlined South Africa’s systematic approach, focusing on meeting the necessary commercial, logistical, infrastructural, and safety requirements to host a grand prix.
