Downfall in Miami: Lando Norris’ Qualifying Prospects Dashed by McLaren Malfunction

Lando Norris will start the 2026 F1 Miami Grand Prix from fourth on the grid after a scrappy session.

After a strong showing in the Sprint race, Lando Norris felt frustrated by a technical issue affecting his battery deployment during the Miami Grand Prix qualifying session, causing him to qualify in fourth place behind Kimi Antonelli, Max Verstappen, and Charles Leclerc.

Norris expressed his disappointment with the deployment issues, noting a lack of full power on his final flying lap, which he believed put him at a disadvantage from the start.

He acknowledged the challenges faced by McLaren during the session, attributing the issues to factors such as higher temperatures, changing wind conditions, and the evolving track surface due to rubber buildup.

Despite the setbacks, Norris recognized that the team was not far off the pace, trailing Mercedes by around two-tenths, but acknowledged the improvements made by his competitors in qualifying.

He remained optimistic about McLaren’s performance, acknowledging the difficulties posed by the car setup, weather conditions, and track changes, ultimately accepting the team’s position on the grid as reflective of their performance during the session.
