FIA rules breach ‘miss’ sparks Miami sprint grid shake-up

The FIA has conceded it missed Alex Albon’s track limits infringement during SQ1 at the Miami Grand Prix, which cost Liam Lawson his place in SQ2.

The FIA has confirmed that Alex Albon’s track limits violation in SQ1 at the Miami Grand Prix was initially missed and he has been given a grid drop as a result. Liam Lawson, who was mistakenly eliminated in SQ1, missed out due to this error. Racing Bulls informed the FIA of the mistake, leaving Lawson waiting in his VCARB 03 during SQ2. Despite qualifying P14, Albon’s fastest SQ1 time will be deleted, dropping him to P19 on the Sprint grid. Lawson expressed frustration at the situation and questioned how such a mistake could happen.
