Max Verstappen has hinted he could quit F1 such is his dislike of the new regulations.
Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali expressed his hope that Max Verstappen will continue racing in F1 despite the Dutchman’s dissatisfaction with the new 2026 rules.
Verstappen had indicated he might walk away from grand prix racing due to his displeasure with the rules, prompting discussions between F1, the FIA, drivers, and teams to address issues like qualifying laps and closing speeds.
Following these talks, it was decided that the battery recharge for qualifying will be reduced to 7MJ from 8MJ starting in Miami to address super-clipping and lift and coast concerns.
Domenicali acknowledged the seriousness of Verstappen’s threats and confirmed speaking with the driver, emphasizing the need for a positive and constructive approach to resolve any issues in the sport.
While recognizing Verstappen’s popularity, Domenicali reminded that Formula 1 has a global fan base of over 800 million and urged against negative confrontations that could harm the sport.
He praised Verstappen as an outstanding driver and expressed his personal hope that the four-time world champion will choose to stay in Formula 1, emphasizing the unique adrenaline that the sport offers.
