Enhancing Fair Play: FIA’s Pledge to Maintain Racing Integrity in Formula 1 Amidst New GP Start Rules

FIA vow to ‘intervene’ if F1 teams seek ‘advantage’ with new GP start rules

The FIA is prepared to penalize any drivers or teams who attempt to gain an advantage by exploiting the latest changes to the start rules. Concerns have arisen following the implementation of new power unit regulations this season, which have impacted race starts due to variations in power delivery. To address this issue, a new low-power start detection system has been introduced for the Miami Grand Prix, triggered to assist vehicles with poor acceleration after the clutch release. However, FIA single-seater director Nikolas Tombazis has cautioned that any attempts to manipulate this system for gain will result in penalties, emphasizing that the measure is intended to prevent disastrous starts, not improve upon them intentionally. The effectiveness of this system will be evaluated over the Miami Grand Prix weekend before potentially being enforced for the subsequent race in Canada.
