Mercedes has enjoyed a very successful start to the new F1 season, but there are difficulties that come with such a position.
Former F1 team principal Otmar Szafnauer identified a weakness of Mercedes despite their dominance in the sport. The team has won all three races so far in the new era of Formula 1 with updated technical regulations. Szafnauer highlighted that while Mercedes leads, their competitors can study and replicate their strategies to catch up. He emphasized that Mercedes must continually innovate to stay ahead, while other teams can learn from them to close the gap faster. Szafnauer highlighted the challenge for Mercedes in finding the next breakthrough without a clear benchmark to follow. He explained how teams like Mercedes must pioneer new developments, while others can benefit from observing and adapting from the frontrunners.
