FIA tackles unforeseen problems with rule changes at Miami GP

The FIA announced a series of rule changes for the remainder of 2026. Paolo Filisetti, technical expert for RacingNews365, explains what the governing body hopes to achieve.

The FIA has introduced rule changes after consulting with teams, drivers, and engine manufacturers. These changes will come into effect at the Miami Grand Prix, except for a measure to prevent slow getaways at the start, which will be tested first. Energy recovery was a major focus, affecting qualifying the most, leading to more strategic energy management than flat-out driving. Further reductions to energy limits are being considered, aiming to promote driving at the car’s limit. The changes aim to minimize the impact of superclipping, encouraging a more natural driving style and reducing artificial overtaking in races by limiting sudden performance boosts. The changes hope to create a more consistent and competitive racing experience for all drivers involved.
