Lando Norris has won his first award of the year, following his maiden F1 drivers’ championship in 2025.
Lando Norris won the Laureus World Breakthrough of the Year award in Madrid on April 20 for his first Formula 1 world championship victory. He beat out competitors Luke Littler and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Norris won the championship at the 2025 season’s last race in Abu Dhabi, securing the title by a mere two points. The prestigious award recognizes athletes whose first significant success propels their careers, with Norris being the 35th F1 driver to win the championship. The ceremony also saw Carlos Alcaraz named Sportsman of the Year and Paris Saint-Germain claimed Team of the Year. Norris joined the likes of Hamilton and Button as winners of the Breakthrough of the Year award in F1.
