Red Bull’s first victory in Formula 1 at the 2009 Chinese Grand Prix came with an unfortunate mistake on the podium.
In its 74th grand prix start, Red Bull achieved its first F1 win on this day in 2009 when Sebastian Vettel triumphed in a rainy Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai. Mark Webber also finished second for a team one-two. However, a minor error occurred during the podium celebrations – the wrong national anthem played. Vettel received the German anthem instead of Austria’s as Red Bull, an Austrian team, races under an Austrian license despite being based in the UK. Interestingly, their next win at the British Grand Prix also saw the British anthem playing mistakenly.
