Oliver Bearman wants to see changes to the F1 rules after Franco Colapinto’s “not good” move at the Japanese Grand Prix.
Haas driver Oliver Bearman expressed his frustration over the dangerous speed differentials caused by F1’s new power unit regulations during a high-speed crash at Suzuka while avoiding Franco Colapinto.
Bearman highlighted the need for more respect among drivers and emphasized the current rules’ inadequacy in managing closing speeds of up to 50kph between cars due to the 50-50 power split between internal combustion engine and electrical battery.
Discussions between the FIA, teams, and F1 are underway to address the hazardous situations arising from conflicting energy deployment strategies.
The FIA held virtual meetings in April to consider six potential solutions, including adjustments to super clipping limits and power deployment profiles.
Bearman remains hopeful that regulatory tweaks will mitigate the speed differentials, enhancing safety on the track.
The final decisions on proposed changes are set to be made on 20 April, with the goal of implementing them for the Miami Grand Prix.
