RacingNews365’s technical analyst Paolo Filisetti dissect who is set to benefit from the FIA’s new Additional Development and Update Opportunities regulation.
The first round of Additional Development and Update Opportunities for the FIA will not be ready for the Miami Grand Prix as initially planned. This program aims to address power unit manufacturer dominance to provide a fair competition environment. Once competitors fall behind by 2% in performance, they can access increased development budgets and modifications to existing power units. The original plan was to implement ADUO after every six races, but the revised schedule due to the cancellation of races in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia has altered this timeline. Mercedes appears to be the benchmark, while Ferrari, Audi, and Aston Martin are expected to qualify for ADUO assistance. Ferrari stands out as a strong contender due to its power unit’s performance deficits compared to Mercedes. Aston Martin, on the other hand, faces challenges at the grid’s rear, trying to overcome Honda power unit deficiencies.
