Ferrari has been close to challenging Mercedes at times in 2026, but has not quite beaten the W17, yet.
According to Martin Brundle, Ferrari must focus on improving its power unit to catch up with Mercedes in the 2026 season. Ferrari has been Mercedes’ closest competitor in the first three races, earning 90 points compared to Mercedes’ 135 and securing podium finishes in all events. While Ferrari has challenged for the lead in various races, it has struggled to maintain its performance throughout a full grand prix distance. Brundle suggests that Ferrari should utilize the enforced break in April to enhance their power unit and enhance their competitiveness against Mercedes. With McLaren also making improvements, the F1 championship is expected to be highly competitive among the top three teams, including Ferrari and Mercedes, who are both expected to push each other to the limit in the upcoming races.
