Lola’s Zane Maloney and Lucas di Grassi are constantly hunting for perfection this season in Formula E, anything else and the back of the grid usually beckons.
Joining Formula E has presented significant challenges for Lola, as Zane Maloney revealed that achieving a “perfect lap” is crucial to competing against the more established teams. Despite entering the series with the modified Gen3 Evo, Lola faced competitors with a two-year head start in utilizing Gen3 data and optimizing performance. While Lola’s powertrain is competitive, it faces issues with quicker overheating compared to other manufacturers and struggles with rear tyre traction. The upcoming introduction of Gen4 signifies a fresh start for Lola, leveling the playing field; however, its current struggle to score points persists with only one point earned this season. Qualifying within the top half of the grid has also proven difficult for Lola, with Maloney’s 10th place starting positions in Jeddah and Madrid being their best so far in Season 12. With each race weekend presenting unique challenges, Lola aims to narrow the performance gap and capitalize on any opportunity for a competitive showing, requiring near-perfection to achieve success in Formula E.
