For the first time in 2026, an Aston Martin car saw the chequered flag in a grand prix.
“Aston Martin is not in a position to give up because of its current struggles in F1, despite achieving a significant milestone at the Japanese GP.
In 2026, the team completed a full grand prix distance for the first time, with Fernando Alonso finishing in 18th place, while Lance Stroll had to retire due to a water pressure issue.
Before the season opener in Australia, team principal Adrian Newey mentioned that both Alonso and Stroll were unable to finish a race distance due to vibrations from the Honda power unit. However, Alonso managed to achieve this at Suzuka with the help of countermeasures.
Although this accomplishment is crucial for the team, chief trackside officer Mike Krack emphasized that the mood within the team is not celebratory, but rather focused on the challenges ahead.
Despite the difficulties, Aston Martin acknowledges the progress made and is committed to working through the obstacles to improve their performance in Formula 1.”
