Fernando Alonso’s Australian GP had not long gotten underway, before it came to a sudden halt.
Fernando Alonso was forced to retire from the Australian Grand Prix on lap 13 due to issues with his Aston Martin. The team instructed him to stop, and he immediately complied by entering the pit lane. This decision was not unexpected given the ongoing problems with Honda’s power unit this season. Alonso had a strong start, qualifying 17th and briefly running in 10th place before dropping back in the field. Team principal Adrian Newey had previously mentioned Alonso’s concerns about potential nerve damage in his hands limiting his race distance. Aston Martin later revealed that they made adjustments to Alonso’s car, allowing him to rejoin the race.
