Oscar Piastri smashed into the barrier before the Albert Park race even got underway!
Oscar Piastri was eliminated from the Australian Grand Prix after colliding with the barrier before the start of the race, leading to his exclusion from the opening round of the season. The Australian driver was set to start the race from fifth on the grid, ahead of his team-mate Lando Norris. Shortly after the pit lane opened, Piastri’s car lost control over the kerbs and spun into the barrier at Turn 5, on the opposite side of the track. Norris was informed over team radio that Piastri lost control while shifting gears while riding the kerb. With Piastri out, only 21 cars will line up on the starting grid for today’s grand prix, marking a disappointing event for the local favorite. This incident is reminiscent of last year’s Australian race, where Piastri dropped to ninth place due to a spin in wet conditions while contending for victory.
