Updated regulations from the FIA show a slight qualifying format change this year.
The FIA has announced a minor change to the 2022 qualifying sessions, which will include an extended running time for the final Q3 segment to 13 minutes.
Due to the addition of Cadillac as the 11th team this year, qualifying rules have been adjusted to cater to the expanded grid size.
In the updated regulations released in December, it was confirmed that the elimination format will now see the slowest six competitors exiting at the end of Q1 and Q2.
This change means that 10 cars will advance to the final Q3 session, where pole position will be determined.
Despite the longer running time in Q3, the break between Q2 and Q3 has been reduced from eight to seven minutes.
Additionally, the two-stop race requirement at the Monaco Grand Prix has been removed after it led to a less exciting race and strategic letdown last year.
