Juha Kankkunen, four-time World Rally Championship champion and Toyota deputy team principal, will be driving the latest hydrogen-powered rally car from Toyota at Rally Finland. The GR Yaris Rally2 H2 Concept will debut during the event’s Harju stage on the first two days of the competition, taking place from July 31 to August 3. Developed in Jyvaskyla, Finland, the car is based on the current GR Yaris Rally2 model but with an internal combustion engine fueled by compressed hydrogen. Toyota has invested significantly in hydrogen-powered race cars as part of its commitment to a carbon-neutral society, showcasing the technology at Ypres Rally Belgium in 2022 before further development led to the current iteration for Finland’s debut. Alongside the hydrogen concept car, Toyota will also compete with a standard GR Yaris Rally2 at Rally Finland with Jari-Matti Latvala behind the wheel, offering valuable insights for ongoing vehicle development at Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT.
