The British Hillclimb Championship’s recent visit to Harewood showcased unpredictable weather, challenging tyre decisions, and an outstanding performance by young racer Alex Coles. Despite the tough conditions, points leader Matthew Ryder secured two crucial wins.
Coles impressed with a brilliant display of skill in his turbo Force, qualifying as the fastest in his class under testing circumstances. The changing track conditions led to a dilemma in tyre choice for the first run-off, with options split between wets, slicks, or a combination of both.
Ryder emerged victorious with a remarkable time, setting a high bar for his competitors. Coles also delivered an exceptional performance, securing second place and earning praise from his peers for his talent and potential.
The weather cleared up towards the end of the day, allowing for dry track conditions and slick tyres. Despite this change, Coles maintained a strong showing, finishing sixth overall. Ryder continued his dominant run with another win, showcasing his skill and determination on the hill.
The day was not without challenges, as Ryder’s team had to quickly replace a nose assembly on the GR59 after a mishap in the class runs. Despite the obstacles, Ryder remained focused and confident, ultimately achieving success on the demanding Harewood course.
