McLaren team principal Andrea Stella felt Oscar Piastri’s 10-second penalty in the Formula 1 British Grand Prix was “very harsh” due to the sudden slowing down causing Max Verstappen to take avoiding action on the track. The stewards deemed Piastri’s actions a breach of FIA Sporting Regulations Article 55.15. Stella expressed that the penalty did not take into account mitigating circumstances, such as the late call for the safety car to come in, affecting tire and brake temperatures for all drivers. Verstappen also expressed his discontent with the penalty, calling it “extreme.” Despite McLaren still clinching a 1-2 victory with Lando Norris winning the race, Stella mentioned that they would like to discuss the incident further with the FIA and stewards to potentially review the situation for future races.
