Revving Up Innovation: LEGO’s Brick-Built Twist on the F1 British GP Trophy

LEGO faced a tough challenge after the Miami Grand Prix pre-race parade, where they showcased drivable replicas of all Formula 1 cars with the top drivers. The event turned into a slow-motion race with LEGO debris everywhere, setting a remarkable precedent for F1.

Designer Samuel Liltorp Johnson was tasked with creating the podium trophies for the British Grand Prix, honoring 75 years of F1. Instead of starting from scratch, the trophies were inspired by the traditional British Grand Prix awards, including the iconic RAC cup.

The winner’s trophy, made of 2,717 LEGO bricks, and the other trophies took a team of seven builders over 210 hours to craft. The trophies hold significance, akin to the FIFA World Cup, marking a special moment for both F1 and LEGO.

The collaboration between F1 and LEGO not only captivates a new generation of fans but also stays authentic to the sport, as emphasized by F1’s chief commercial officer, Emily Prazer. The partnership showcases the power of creativity in creating memorable experiences for fans and inspiring the next generation.
