Five open entries were vying for the final four spots on the Chicago race grid, with Shane van Gisbergen securing pole position. A David vs. Goliath showdown unfolded between Corey Heim and Live Fast Motorsports Chevrolet for the last spot, with unexpected twists. Reigning Supercars champ Will Brown got Kaulig Racing in at 19th place, while Heim faced challenges from a wall hit and bent toe-link.
Despite the setbacks, Legge secured her spot in the show, outperforming Heim by just over a tenth. Legge noted the stress of the street circuit, comparing it to Indy 500 qualifying. She expressed gratitude for the support and expressed readiness for the high-pressure race.
Heim, acknowledging his mistake in bending the toe link, expressed disappointment on social media. Despite the setback, he thanked 23XI Racing for providing a competitive car for the race weekend.
