Daniel Ricciardo faces engine failure, unable to even start at Chicago Speedway

Denny Hamlin’s practice session in Chicago was short-lived as his No. 11 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota experienced mechanical issues, forcing him to abort before even completing a flying lap.

The car started smoking and leaking oil, ultimately leading to a spinout, causing internal damage that ended his practice prematurely.

Hamlin expressed frustration, emphasizing the importance of control and preparation in racing, highlighting the setback caused by the mechanical failure on a track that requires extensive practice.

This wasn’t the first time mechanical problems have haunted Hamlin in the 2025 season, with earlier DNFs at Texas and Kansas due to similar issues, including a fiery incident in Texas.

Chicago’s track history hasn’t been favorable to Hamlin either, with past wrecks and disappointing finishes adding to the challenge, as he now faces starting from the rear in the main event after missing out on practice time.

With a tough task of making his way through the field on the challenging street course, Hamlin faces an uphill battle in Sunday’s race.
