George Russell received a reprimand from the stewards for entering the fast lane without a suitable gap during the Formula 1 Austrian Grand Prix qualifying. The incident occurred at the start of Q3 in the pitlane, where Russell had to stop at an angle that obstructed his view of approaching cars. Mercedes acknowledged they could have managed the situation better. Russell, starting fifth in the race, expressed the challenge of visibility due to the car’s blind spots during the incident. Despite the reprimand, Mercedes considered their qualifying result the best they could achieve given their strengths and weaknesses. Red Bull’s protests regarding Russell’s actions behind a late safety car in the previous race were ultimately dismissed by the authorities.
