Horner dismisses Verstappen-Mercedes talks as just “noise”

Christian Horner, the team principal of Red Bull, has dismissed the ongoing speculation linking Max Verstappen, the Formula 1 world champion, with a seat at Mercedes as “a lot of noise.” Toto Wolff, his Mercedes counterpart, has shown interest in Verstappen in the past but has now suggested a scenario where George Russell and the Dutchman could potentially swap seats next year.

However, Horner is adamant that the rumors surrounding Verstappen’s future are merely speculative, emphasizing their contract with the driver until 2028 and indicating they do not pay much attention to external noise. Wolff also stated that it is unlikely for Verstappen to join Mercedes in 2026, at least based on the current circumstances.

Russell, who is awaiting a contract extension, has been linked to Aston Martin as a potential target, while the situation with Verstappen remains clear and confidential within their team. Horner mentioned that any frustration George may feel about his contract situation is a matter between him and his team.
