Breaking Barriers: Jorge Martin’s Path to Freedom in MotoGP

Jorge Martin’s manager, Albert Valera, has confirmed that the MotoGP world champion is free to negotiate with any team for the 2026 season, despite Aprilia’s opposition. Martin’s decision to leave Aprilia at the end of the season has caused tension between the rider and the Italian manufacturer. By activating a clause in his contract, Martin secured his release from the second year (2026) under certain conditions related to his championship standings after the first six races.

Aprilia disputes the validity of the clause due to Martin’s extended absence from races due to injuries. Honda has shown interest in signing Martin, but they are waiting for him to resolve his situation with Aprilia before making any moves. Valera maintains that the activation of the contract clause allows Martin to pursue opportunities with other teams freely for 2026.

Valera also confirmed that Honda is a serious option for Martin, as stated by HRC team manager Alberto Puig. Martin is still recovering from injuries sustained in a crash at the Qatar Grand Prix and is uncertain about his return date, pending medical tests next week. Before making a comeback, Martin will have a testing day at Misano as per a recent rule change by Aprilia.
