Last year, Toto Wolff took responsibility for Andrea Kimi Antonelli’s crash during his first Formula 1 outing, admitting it might not have been the best decision to put the teenager in the car at his home grand prix. Antonelli’s debut at the Italian Grand Prix ended abruptly with a crash at Parabolica, raising doubts about his readiness to potentially replace Lewis Hamilton in 2025. Despite some rookie mistakes, Mercedes stood by Antonelli and has been impressed with his performances this season, which included a sprint pole in Miami and a podium finish in Montreal. Antonelli sees the Montreal podium as a breakthrough moment that will allow him to drive more confidently and aggressively, especially in practice sessions. Reflecting on the Monza incident, Antonelli admits he has been too cautious in practices, aiming to push himself further and explore his limits more during qualifying to improve his performance. Wolff and the Mercedes team remain optimistic about Antonelli’s future in Formula 1, eager to see his progress continue in the upcoming races.
