Top Contender Carlos Sainz Sr Withdraws from FIA Presidency Race

Carlos Sainz Sr has announced he will not run against Mohammed Ben Sulayem for the FIA presidency, confirming he will not be a candidate in the upcoming election. Motorsport.com had reported in May that Sainz was considering challenging Ben Sulayem, but he cited the “present circumstances” and his Dakar commitments as reasons for his decision. A letter signed by 36 race clubs supported Ben Sulayem, whose tenure as FIA president has faced controversy, most recently with the redundancy of a key director. Sainz expressed his ongoing passion for motorsport but believes the current situation is not conducive for his candidacy and will focus on his Dakar commitments. Ben Sulayem may run unopposed for another term amid various controversies during his presidency, including disputes with key figures and driver dissatisfaction over certain decisions.
